Estimating the appropriate tendon length and associated skin incision needed to achieve a plantigrade foot without compromising function are essential steps in open Achilles tendon lengthening. Here we describe a technique using basic surgical instruments referencing anatomic landmarks without the need for radiographs. The center of ankle rotation in the sagittal plane is found referencing the tip of the medial malleolus. This point is translated to the plantar surface of the foot, and a straight instrument in line with the foot is used to make a mark at the posterior calcaneal fat pad. The straight instrument is then rota...

ABSTRACT The surgical treatment of bulbar urethral strictures is still one of the most challenging reconstructive-surgery problems. Bulbar urethral strictures are usually categorized as traumatic and non-traumatic strictures depending on the aetiology. The traumatic strictures are caused by trauma and they determine disruption of the urethra with obliteration of the urethral lumen, ending with fibrotic gaps between the urethral ends. Differently, the non-traumatic urethral strictures are mainly caused by catheterization, instrumentation, and infection, or they can also be idiopathic. They are usually associated with spongi...

ABSTRACT Obesity is increasing in prevalence worldwide and an increasingly commonly encountered condition is adult acquired buried penis (AABP). We review the current management of AABP and relevant literature. Management of AABP requires a combination of genitourinary reconstructive techniques and plastic surgery techniques that are unique to this condition. We offer our experience and tips and tricks for the treatment of AABP.

Contributor : Kohei MatsushitaSeries Type : Expression profiling by arrayOrganism : Rattus norvegicusAcute kidney injury (AKI) have been thought to be reversible condition, however, emerging evidence demonstrated association between AKI and subsequent development of irreversible fibrosis and chronic kidney disease. In the present study, since recovery of AKI depends on renal tubular regeneration, factors expressing in renal tubules in adaptive or maladaptive repair process were investigated to predict reversibility of kidney injury. In the kidney of female F344 rats subjected to ischemia/reperfusion (I/R), regenerative tub...

AbstractBackgroundHiatal hernia repair performed at the time of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) may reduce post-operative reflux symptoms. It is unclear whether intra-operative diagnosis of hiatal hernia varies among surgeons or if it affects outcomes.Study designSurgeons (n = 38) participating in a statewide bariatric surgery quality improvement collaborative reviewed 33 videos of LSG in which no hiatal hernia repair was performed. Reviewers were blinded to patient information and were asked whether they perceived a hiatal hernia. Surgeon characteristics and surge on-specific patient outcomes for LSG w...
