CONCLUSIONS: We have described the use of a new first trimester sonographic marker for the diagnosis of spina bifida. Our results suggest that the crash sign may be a useful tool in the first trimester detection of spina bifida. ConclusionFirst-trimester screening using four serum markers only can be carried out in India. Performance is expected to be similar to the second-trimester Quad test and will also facilitate early screening for preeclampsia and open spina bifida. A protocol of NT plus the four serum markers enhances the performance compared with NT, PAPP-A and free β-hCG.

CONCLUSIONS: Neurodevelopmental and neurological outcomes between prenatal versus postnatal repair are similar. As with fetal surgery, conventional postnatal surgery is associated with the reversal of hind brain herniation. We report the case of a 15-year-old pregnant patient, who delivered a 34-week living fetus with alobar HPE, cyclopia and proboscis. Conclusions: Ultrasound screening has a major impact on the epidemiology of SB. The prenatal detection rate of SB was high, and most SB cases were isolated and had a normal karyotype.
