Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy complication: ilio-femoral deep vein thrombosis

Dear Editor, we discribe for the first time ilio-femoral deep vein thrombosis (IF-DVT) complication following laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy. The prevalence of pelvic organ prolapse(POP) may reach 20% in parous women. In the United States alone, approximately 200,000 inpatient surgical procedures are performed annually to resolve POP[1]. Sacrocolpopexy is perceived as having a superior anatomic outcome, and thus considered the treatment of choice for POP [2]. Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy has been shown to be as effective as open sacrocolpopexy, but results in decreased blood loss and shorter hospital stays[2].
