Commentary: One-Stage Norwood Reconstruction with Aortic Uncrossing: A Tailored Approach to a Rare Problem

The article by Alsoufi and colleagues1 shrewdly describes the steps taken in navigating a rare and complex case and clearly explains the reasoning behind their approach in combining two operations into one. Aortic uncrossing was first described by Planch é and Lacour-Gayet2 and is the procedure of choice for managing circumflex aorta in patients with biventricular hearts. However, this finding in combination with single ventricle defects is extremely rare. Multiple surgical approaches could be considered for a rare condition such as circumflex aort a and single ventricle.
