MS Good Days and Bad Days Are a Moving Target

A few months after we began the Life With MS Blog I had had the fortune of attending an NMSS sponsored yoga series.  I was struggling with an awful lot (not just MS) back then and the soulful sprite who taught our classes saw beyond my broken body and helped me to see as well. When someone bemoaned their ability do to a “bad leg”, we were all treated to a lesson about what is bad and what is good. Since that day I have strived to focus on the good as much as possible.  I’m not a Pollyanna but a pragmatist.  To me the truth is that it doesn’t matter if it’s a good day or a bad day; it’s about what to do to wring the most out of that day. What may seem like a bad day one day because of slow limbs and mind-numbing fatigue could be good relative to a day my MS has kept me in bed.  The days I can walk Sadie for a few hundred crutch-aided yards may be a fantastic day even if that is all the energy I have for hours or days to come. My multiple sclerosis is different from anyone else’s just as yours is.  We all have different disease activity and symptoms and damage and external circumstances.  We also have different coping mechanisms and management skills.  So it is up to each of us to find the best way to make the most of the good days… even when they aren’t actually that ‘good’.
