Commentary: One and Done

Sterno-clavicular joint infections are a difficult problem for both the patient and the surgeon. For the patient the infection and surgical extirpation are very painful. With conventional therapy of excision followed by granulating wound care was slow. The surgeon and the patient are bound together for the long period of debridement, granulation and healing. The surgeon is not happy and the patient is not happy. Being that this is an uncommon problem, the nonthoracic community may not be familiar with the disease.
