Challenges in insulin initiation among Hispanics/Latinos with diabetes in the United States

In the U.S., the prevalence of diagnosed diabetes is particularly high among people of Hispanic ethnicity. Insulin is pivotal for maintaining glycemic control, but its initiation is often delayed due to a variety of patient and physician factors. We conducted a systematic literature review to understand and communicate the current gaps and disparities regarding insulin initiation among the Hispanic/Latino population in the U.S. Frequently reported barriers to initiating diabetes treatment are related to socioeconomic and sociocultural factors.
