How should aortic remodelling be defined?

We read with great interest the study of Kazimierczak et al. Dealing with effects of Extended PETTICOAT Technique on aortic remodelling in patients with acute type 3B (AT3B) dissection.1 As the authors mentioned, the aneurysmatic process on going from conventional follow-up is a serious problem about complicated AT3B or Stanford type B (STB) dissections. To decrease this process, Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR) is being used. The main arguement to assess the efficiency of this technique is aortic remodelling.

Authors: Lareyre F, Carlier M, Raffort J Abstract The presence of accessory renal artery is a frequent anatomic variation that can challenge abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. Here, we show an image of an abdominal aortic aneurysm extended to multiple accessory renal arteries in a patient known for an end-stage renal failure. This case raises the questions of the criteria that should be taken in consideration for an optimal management of accessory renal artery during AAA repair. Authors: Suozzi K, Turban J, Girardi M Abstract Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure is well established as the major environmental risk factor for the development of melanoma, cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Additional risk factors including genetic mutations, other environmental agents, and immune status are important in modulating the effects of UVR. Dermatologists advocate a multi-pronged approach to minimizing UVR exposure including lifestyle modifications, UVR protective clothing, and topically applied sun-protective products, i.e. sunscreen. Authors: Dolkhani S, Najafpour A, Mohammadi R Abstract Purpose: The improvement of techniques using conduits that connects the ends of damaged nerves and guides the growth of nerve fibers between the stumps, including adoption of natural or synthetic materials still is a challenge in peripheral nerve repair. The aim of the present novel study was to fabricate and transplant chitosan-selenium biodegradable nanocomposite conduit on transected sciatic nerve in rat model. Methods: In NORMAL group, the left sciatic nerve was exposed through a gluteal muscle incision and after careful hemostasis skin was closed. In TRANSE...

Conclusions: The nonlinear correlation between endothelial lesion size and probability of developing MGK suggests that the CEC loss is a determinative factor for emergence of MGK. These studies illustrate the importance of endothelial repair in preventing MGK. Furthermore, they exclude chemical modification of basement membrane as a mechanistic cause of recurrent epithelial erosions in MGK eyes.
