Malignant ventricular arrhythmias and other complications of untreated accessory pathways: analysis of prevalence and risk factors in over 600 ablation cases.

CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of various adverse events in patients with AP referred for ablation is not uncommon. The clinical risk factors for malignant arrhythmias have too low predictive value to prevent devastating consequences. When high safety and efficacy of AP ablation is provided, even a low risk of sudden death is unacceptable and there should be a lower threshold for prophylactic ablation to prevent AP-related adverse events.
