Elastic scattering of electrons by DNA bases

Publication date: Available online 28 January 2020Source: Radiation Physics and ChemistryAuthor(s): S. Mokrani, H. Aouchiche, C. ChampionAbstractThe corrected independent-atom model, taking into account the correlation-polarization and exchange effects and the coherent and multiple scattering, is here developed to calculate the differential and total cross sections of electrons elastically scattered by DNA bases, namely, adenine (C5H5N5), guanine (C5H5N5O), thymine (C5H6N2O2) and cytosine (C4H5N3O). The effects of the short-range spherical potential and the long-range correlation-polarization and exchange contributions are highlighted. The differential and total cross sections obtained in the investigated energy range (10 eV-5 MeV) are discussed and compared with available results in the literature. Good agreements are generally observed.
