ConclusionP. karwinskii leaf extract inhibited reactive oxygen species and exerted an anti-inflammatory effect. Moreover, this extract did not induce gastric damage in the animals. The bioactivity of the species was found to support its traditional use in traditional medicine. This orchid could be used to treat inflammatory diseases without causing the side effects associated with Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It can also be employed to treat other pathological conditions associated with oxidative stress. The findings herein form the basis for the future discovery of natural products that may serve as safe alternat...

Authors: Yin W, Zhong G, Fan H, Xia H Abstract Fluorouracil (5-FU) and oxaliplatin (L-OHP) are the most commonly used chemotherapy drugs for colorectal cancer, though resistance is common. Compound Sophora injection is a traditional Chinese medicine that can protect the liver against oxidation, improve immunity, and enhance sensitivity to chemotherapy; it may have an effect of reversing resistance in 5-FU- and L-OHP-resistant gastric cancer cells (5-FU/SW480 and L-OHP/SW480, respectively). A concentration gradient experiment was performed to identify a nontoxic dose of compound Sophora injection. 5-FU/SW480 and L-O...

This study investigated the molecular targets of the component herbs of QLSP in preventing precancerous lesions based on network pharmacology. Network pharmacology analysis revealed that the 6 herbs regulated multiple CAG-related genes, among which the most important were cancer-related pathway (apoptosis, p53, and VEGF) and epithelial cell signaling in Helicobacter pylori infection. Further animal experiments showed that the expression of survivin and p53 in precancerous lesions of CAG rats was significantly increased which was suppressed by QLSP. Moreover, telomerase activity was inhibited in precancerous lesions of CAG ...

Authors: Darzi S, Mirzaei SA, Elahian F, Shirian S, Peymani A, Rahmani B, Dibazar SP, Aali E Abstract The capability of flavonoids in sensitizing cancer cells was demonstrated in numerous works to chemotherapy and converse multidrug resistance by modulating efflux pumps and apoptosis mechanisms. Three flavonoids, namely, bavachinin, tephrosin, and candidone, have been recently introduced to cancer treatment research presenting various activities, such as antibacterial, immunomodulatory, cell death, and anticancer. Less information exists regarding the therapeutic significance of these flavonoids in cancer treatment...

Ding-Kun Zhang Gac fruit (Momordica cochinchinensis Spreng) is a popular tropical fruit in southeast Asia. What is amazing is that its seeds (Momordicae Semen) and arils are traditional herbs with anti-tumor activity, and have protected human health for more than 1000 years. In recent years, its anti-tumor activity has received extensive attention and research. This manuscript summarized the chemical composition of saponins, fatty acids, volatile constituents, proteins, peptides, and other components from Momordicae Semen (MSE). The effect and mechanism of MSE and its extract on breast cancer, gastric cancer, lung c...

In this study, we examined the effective anti-gastric carcinoma activity of PPI and its underlying mechanism of action in HGC-27 cells. In vitro, sub-micromolar concentrations of PPI inhibited HGC-27 cell proliferation with an IC50 of 0.34 ± 0.06 μM after a 72-h treatment. In vivo, 3 mg/kg PPI significantly inhibited proliferation of HGC-27 tumor cells, with a 78.8% inhibition rate compared to paclitaxel, and demonstrated higher safety. Analysis of MDC and mGFP-LC3 fluorescence, Western blotting and flow cytometry indicated that PPI induced cell cycle arrest in HGC-27 cells by promotin...
