Imfinzi and tremelimumab granted Orphan Drug Designation in the US for liver cancer

AstraZeneca's Imfinzi (durvalumab) and tremelimumab, an anti-CTLA4 antibody and potential new medicine, have both been granted Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) in the US for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of liver cancer.

In this study, miRNA microarrays and bioinformatics methods were employed to determine the dysregulation of miRNA by IR in HCC cells, and quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) was applied to valid the miRNA array data. ConclusionsHere, we discuss the role of ErbB4 in normal physiology and in breast, lung, colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, prostate, bladder, and brain cancers, as well as in hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and melanoma. Understanding the role of ErbB4 in cancer is not only important for the treatment of tumors, but also for the treatment of other disorders in which ErbB4 plays a major role, e.g. cardiovascular disease.
