Transportation Management Affecting Outcomes of Patients With Spontaneous Intracranial Hemorrhage

ConclusionBPV during transport was not associated with mortality. However, high standard deviation in systolic blood pressure during transport was associated with lower HD5GCS in patients with intraparenchymal hemorrhage. Further studies are needed to confirm our observations.

ConclusionThe specificity of large aneurysm for predicting rebleeding after SAH is relatively high. However, its overall accuracy for predicting aneurysm rebleeding is not very satisfying. A comprehensive model should be developed to improve the accuracy of rebleeding prediction after SAH.

AbstractBackgroundRecurrent bleeding from an intracranial aneurysm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is associated with unfavorable outcome. Recurrent bleeding before aneurysm occlusion can be performed occurs in up to one in five patients and most often happens within the first 6 h after the primary hemorrhage. Reducing the rate of recurrent bleeding could be a major factor in improving clinical outcome after SAH. Tranexamic acid (TXA) reduces the risk of recurrent bleeding but has thus far not been shown to improve functional outcome, probably because of a higher risk of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI). To reduce the r...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has revolutionized medicine, but MRI scanners are so demanding that access to them is still a challenge. MRI machines typically require specially built rooms with magnet quench vent pipes, entry systems that check peo...

Although qualitative or semiquantitative clinical grades (such as WFNS grade and modified Fisher grade) are well known to be associated with DCI following aSAH, identification of an easily measurable and more objective biomarker for predicting DCI might be helpful for early prediction and risk mitigation. In the current study, we found that the early stage neuroglobin level was a significant predictor of DCI in aSAH patients. Furthermore, combined use of WFNS grade and Ngb level might be able to better identify aSAH patients with high risk of DCI. AbstractBackgroundThe neuroglobin (Ngb) is well recognized as a potential bi...

The primary aim of this prospective pilot study was to assess feasibility of implementing goal-oriented attentional self-regulation (GOALS) training in Slovenia with patients with multiple cognitive deficits after acquired brain injury in acute phase of recovery. Seven patients with acquired brain injury (i.e. stroke, traumatic brain injury, and subarachnoid hemorrhage) with a mean postinjury time of 4.3 months (SD = 1.25) and mean age of 34.5 years (SD = 18.6) were recruited for the study. The group program consisted of 10 sessions twice a week and included cognitive strategy training, social skills training, and psychoed...

To the best of our knowledge, the Tp-e interval and the Tp-e/QT and Tp-e/QTc ratios have not been studies in recent years in terms of their use for the evaluation of ventricular repolarization in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Time-critical acute ischemic conditions such as ST-elevation myocardial infarction and acute ischemic stroke are staples in Emergency Medicine practice. While timely reperfusion therapy is a priority, the resultant acute ischemia/reperfusion injury contributes to significant mortality and morbidity. Among therapeutics targeting ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) has emerged as the most promising. RIC, which consists of repetitive inflation and deflation of a pneumatic cuff on a limb, was first demonstrated to have protective effect on IRI through various neural and humoral mechanisms. It...
