140. Early Lessons Learned from Implementing Telehealth in Rural School Based Health Centers

New Mexico (NM) is a large rural and frontier state with 32 of 33 counties classified as health provider shortage areas and a high percentage of youth live in poverty. School-based health centers (SBHC) have economic benefit and help address healthcare needs of underserved youth, but access to specialty pediatric care remains difficult, especially in rural areas. FRONTERAS (Facilitating Rural Opportunities with New TEchnologies, Resources And Services) is a SBHC initiative to increase access to University of New Mexico pediatric sub-specialists (obesity, asthma, oral health, and behavioral health) using telehealth (TH) applications for direct service delivery, case consultation, and provider, child and family education in four rural SBHCs using telehealth (TH).
