GE/National Medical Fellowships International Medical Scholars Program

GE/National Medical Fellowships International Medical Scholars Program This international program provides a two-month mentored clinical experience in the provision of primary healthcare in Ghana and Kenya. This program provides opportunities to learn about the management of acutely ill patients. Scholars are actively involved in healthcare delivery and institutional evaluation relevant to their academic programs and important to partner organizations that include host hospitals, national health services, and academic institutions.  Ghana and Kenya provide a great opportunity for those interested in healthcare in developing countries, in tropical medicine, and community healthcare service. Former GE/NMF Medical Scholars note the impact of the program on their lives particularly in their personal contact with diseases studied previously only in textbooks. Transportation, living stipend and a scholarship of $5,000 per student is provided. Applicants should be prepared to work within the program guidelines and accept local living conditions including spotty internet access, double occupancy hostel-type accommodations, local food traditions, periodic water shortages, electrical outages, and tropical climate.
