Oguzoglu, Huseyin Yilmaz, Juergen A. Richt, Mariette F. DucatezAbstractBovine respiratory infections are the most economically important diseases affecting the cattle industry worldwide including Turkey. Influenza D virus (IDV) could play an important role to trigger bovine respiratory disease (BRD) complex. Since, there is no data about the presence and genotypes of IDV in Turkish cattle herds; this study was performed to investigate IDV in cattle in Tu...

The objective of this study was to investigate possible myocardial damage in goats affected with PT by the determination of serum myocardial enzyme cTnI and CK-MB. A total of 44 goats affected with PT, and 10 apparently healthy goats (control group or CG) were used in the study. In goats with PT, the serum concentrations of cTnI (0.43 ng/mL) were significantly higher than that in CG goats (0.06 ng/mL). Although CK-MB showed no significant difference, it was approximately three times higher in animals with PT. The serum concentrations of insulin were significantly lower in PT goats (5.03 ppmol/L) compared to CG goats (1...

The willingness to pay is estimated through a binary choice contingent valuation approach using data from a rural household survey specially designed for this purpose. The survey was cond...

Allan AlldayAbstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of systematic instruction combined with a self-directed video prompt to teach text comprehension skills to students with autism spectrum disorder. Participants included four elementary school students with autism spectrum disorder. A multiple probe across participants design was used to evaluate the intervention's effectiveness. Results indicated the intervention was successful for all participants. A...

We present a 6-year-old boy with unilateral retinoblastoma of the left eye. MRI showed an intraocular tumor that extended into the optic nerve beyond the lamina cribrosa. The affected eye was enucleated and the optic nerve resection margin proved to be free. Following protocol, this patient received six courses of adjuvant systemic chemotherapy. Unfortunately, after 5 months this patient returned with the leptomeningeal spread of the tumor and died quickly thereafter.Histopathologic analysis of the enucleated eye and distal optic nerve revealed that the postlaminar tumor cells occupied the entire width of the optic nerve, ...

Conclusion: Eyes with retinoblastoma that failed chemotherapy followed by focal therapy were controlled with EBRT. However, the presence of vitreous seeds, stage migration during the course of chemotherapy, as well as good vision in the other eye may not justify the known risks of EBRT. Authors: Kaprio T, Hagström J, Andersson LC, Haglund C Abstract CD63, a member of the tetraspanin family, is expressed in endosomes and enriched in exosomes. Tetraspanins participate in a variety of physiological processes, including cellular differentiation, cell-cell fusion, and cell migration. CD63 reportedly carries both protumorigenic and tumor suppressor properties, and appears to be upregulated in breast cancer, astrocytoma, and melanoma. Yet, the effect of CD63 on cancer prognosis remains unclear, and no previous reports examined it in colorectal cancer (CRC). Identifying novel biomarkers will allow us...

Authors: Gao J, Tian Z, Yang X Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) virus is spreading rapidly, and scientists are endeavoring to discover drugs for its efficacious treatment in China. Chloroquine phosphate, an old drug for treatment of malaria, is shown to have apparent efficacy and acceptable safety against COVID-19 associated pneumonia in multicenter clinical trials conducted in China. The drug is recommended to be included in the next version of the Guidelines for the Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Pneumonia Caused by COVID-19 issued by the National Health Commission of the People's Republi...

Authors: Shen F, Zhu B, Ding Y, Gao M, He N Abstract People living with HIV (PLWH) have an excess risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities are independently predictive of incident cardiovascular events in the general population. Our study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and correlates of ECG abnormalities among PLWH in Shanghai, China. We used a cross-sectional design to collect data from Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, China. A total of 587 HIV-infected patients aged between 18 and 75 years were recruited between January 2015 and February 2016. The overall prevalence...

Publication date: Available online 20 February 2020Source: Statistics &Probability LettersAuthor(s): Martin Forde, Benjamin SmithAbstractWe compute E(Xt|(Xs)0≤s≤L) for the standard Bacry-Muzy log-correlated Gaussian field X with covariance log+Tt−s, which corrects the finite-horizon prediction formula in Vargas et al. (Duchon et al., 0000). The problem can be viewed as a linear filtering problem, and we solve the problem by showing that the L2(P) closure of {∫[0,L]ϕ(s)Xsds:ϕ∈S,supp(ϕ)⊆[0,L]} is equal to {X(ϕ):ϕ∈H−12,supp(ϕ)⊆[0,L]}, where X(ϕ) is defined as a continu...
