Validation and psychometric properties of Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) in Iran.

Validation and psychometric properties of Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) in Iran. Asian J Psychiatr. 2019 Oct 24;47:101856 Authors: Amini-Tehrani M, Nasiri M, Jalali T, Sadeghi R, Ghotbi A, Zamanian H Abstract BACKGROUND: Suicide is increasing in young Iranian population, which necessitates the employing of valid, yet abridged instruments assessing the constellation of suicide-related behaviors. The study aimed at validating Suicide Behavior Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) among Iranian undergraduates. METHODS: A total of 487 undergraduates were surveyed in 2018. Construct validity of SBQ-R was examined via confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Spearman's correlation with two single-item indices of suicide acceptability (SA) and lifetime suicidal ideation (LSI) was determined. Logistic regression and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to examine the cut-off points (≥ 7 and ≥ 8) and categorizations as per item 1. RESULTS: The mean SBQ-R score was 5.79 ± 3.55. Cut-off points ≥ 7 and ≥ 8 categorized 150 (30.8%) and 123 (25.2%) samples with suicide risk, respectively. Women obtained significantly higher scores on all indices, except items 1 and 4. CFA confirmed the model with sound goodness-of-fit, with factor loadings of 0.70 to 0.83. Composite reliability and average variance extracted were 0.87 and 0.63, respectively. The SBQ-R's correlation with SA and LSI confirmed its concurrent validity. Regression analysis c...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe current report aims to summarize recent advances about the relationship between non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and eating disordered (ED) behaviors and highlights meaningful directions for future research.Recent FindingsWhile there is solid evidence indicating a robust cross-sectional association between NSSI and ED behaviors, emerging evidence suggests that the temporal relationship between these behaviors may be bidirectional. Shared functions and risk factors may explain why these behaviors often co-develop. At the same time, little is still known about the psychosocial consequences of como...

CONCLUSION: The better psychological health of older physicians highlights the need to consider physician health according to age and career stage. Apart from the decline in work stressors, in particular work-life conflict, there may be a survivor effect such that physicians who practice into older age have developed greater resilience and professional maturation. Conclusion: The findings from the study have shown that the prevalence of suicidal deaths, thoughts and attempts vary between the Mediterranean countries. Lower suicide rates are observed in the Muslim Mediterranean nations than in the Judeo-Christian ones. However, the rates of suicide mortality in non-Arab Muslim nations being comparable to the rates in non-Muslim countries confirm the concerns over mis/underreporting of suicidal behavior in Arab Muslim countries due to religio-cultural stigma attached to suicide. The average suicidal mortality rates are lower in Mediterranean countries than the world average. Generally,...
