Motoric Cognitive Risk Syndrome in a Chinese Older Adult Population: Prevalence and Associated Factors

China is expected to host almost half of the global dementia population by 2050.1 Such projections demand immediate preventive therapies to delay the progression of cognitive decline in the community. Motoric cognitive risk (MCR) syndrome characterized by subjective memory complaints and decreased gait speed (in older adults without dementia and mobility disability) has been shown to predict incident dementia, and hence is referred to as a predementia stage.2,3 MCR has been suggested to be an efficient tool for identifying high-risk individuals and thus could be a useful measure for preventive therapies or studies targeting dementia.
