Brexit: What ’s the Deal for Medicine in the United Kingdom?

In June 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union —a decision that sparked heated and passionate debate on the referendum result. The process of leaving the European Union (EU) became known as ‘Brexit’ and went on to dominate the UK’s political agenda and ultimately led to the resignation of two prime ministers. Following a flurry of negoti ations between London and Brussels, the original leaving date in March 2019 was pushed back, bringing about the resignation of Prime Minister Theresa May. New leader of the governing Conservative party Boris Johnson stands poised to take the UK out of the EU at the end of October 2019. The prospect of a ‘no deal’ exit from the Union without any reciprocal agreements in place, cannot be ruled out.
