Lower socioeconomic status is associated with an increased prevalence of comorbid anxiety and depression among patients with irritable bowel syndrome: results from a multicenter cohort.

Conclusions: Among IBS patients, the presence of comorbid Generalized Anxiety Disorder and/or Major Depressive Disorder is associated with lower socioeconomic status and lower average per capita income. These findings speak to a biopsychosocial model of illness, which should be considered by clinicians in the care of IBS patients. PMID: 31530048 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
