Identification of the BRAF V600E mutation in a patient with sclerosing pneumocytoma: A case report

Sclerosing pneumocytoma (sclerosing hemangioma, SP) is a rare benign tumor of the lung that contains two cell types, stromal round cells and cuboidal surface cells. It is a well-circumscribed lung parenchymal lesion that is usually diagnosed in individuals aged 50 years and older, but also has been observed in younger individuals including adolescents. SP is more common in women, with a male:female ratio of 1:5. Although the genomic profile of SP is largely unknown, the AKT1 (AKT serine/threonine kinase 1) E17K mutation has been reported with high frequency in SP.
