Addition of Neostigmine and Atropine to Conventional Management of Postdural Puncture Headache: A Randomized Controlled Trial

(Anesth Analg. 2018;127(6):1434–1439) Postdural puncture headache (PDPH), with the postulated etiology of meningeal traction from low cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure or cerebral vasodilation, is often treated with an epidural blood patch (EBP). A patient with a PDPH received neostigmine and atropine for management of postoperative ileus. Interestingly, her PDPH also resolved with this medication. This case resulted in the authors conducting a randomized controlled trial to study the efficacy of neostigmine and atropine in the management of PDPH.
