Physical Activity Interventions Improve Quality of Life of Children With Obesity: Should We Expect Them to Also Decrease Body Mass Index?

It comes as no surprise that youth in America engage in less physical activity now than they have in the past years. The newly released 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend that children and adolescents engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity for 60  minutes daily and muscle- and bone-strengthening activity three days per week [1]. In our prior work using a nationally representative sample, we demonstrated that physical activity declines with age such that most adolescents are not meeting these recommendations [2].
