Abstract Cigarette smoke contains a lot of harmful chemicals which cause different diseases like cancer, heart disease, bronchitis and ulcer etc. Ammonia and phenol are among those chemicals which cause cancer, fibrosis, respiratory disorder and pneumonia. So, to remove ammonia and phenol from cigarette smoke, five different types of carboxymethyl starch-g-polyacrylic acids (CMS-g-PAAs) were synthesized by using different initiators, different mole ratio of acrylic acid to CMS anhydroglucose unit (AGU) and different amount of water. Three types of modified CMSs, CMS-g-PAA1, CMS-g-PAA3 and CMS-g-PAA4 were selected ...

Abstract To determine the association between daily air pollution and the hospital admissions for respiratory diseases in children aged from 0 to 17 years in Jinan, China. Generalized linear models were used to explore the acute effects of ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on the children's hospital admissions for respiratory diseases. We evaluated the lag associations (including lag 0 to lag 3, lag 01, and lag 03) between daily PM2.5 and the number of children's hospital admissions for respiratory diseases, and stratified by gender, age group (baby group: age 0-1 years; child group: age 1-5 years; student g...

This study aimed to identify the active components of YYQFT and elucidate the underlying mechanism on non-small cell lung cancer. First, YYQFT was extracted with different solvents, and then the most effective extract was determined by assessing their effects on non-small cell lung cancer cell growth. Second, several active compounds from YYQFT were identified, and quercetin was the one of the important active ingredients. Subsequently, the in vivo antitumor activity of quercetin was confirmed in a lung cancer xenograft model in mice. 200 μ g/mL quercetin significantly reduced tumor volume without affecting body weight ...

Conclusions: Workplace exposures contribute to the burden of disease across a range of nonmalignant lung conditions in adults (in addition to the 100% burden for the classic occupational pneumoconioses). This burden has important clinical, research, and policy implications. There is a pressing need to improve clinical recognition and public health awareness of the contribution of occupational factors across a range of nonmalignant respiratory diseases. In this study, we included a total of 834 cases consisting of sudden death cases from infantile-pediatric age group and autopsy cases from> 18 year age group with suspected respiratory tract infection in our laboratory between January 2013 and May 2017. Of 834 cases, 468 (56.1%) were male and 366 (43.9%) were female, there were 191 (22.9%) cases between 0-1 months, 593 (71.1%) cases between 1 month-18 years, and 50 (6%) cases in the> 18 years age group. In 728 of 834 (87.3%) cases nasopharyngeal/tracheal swab samples and in 106 (12.7%) of them paraffin-embedded lung tissue samples were studied by the use of "FTD...
