Making the case for cascade screening among families with inherited heart disease

A common scenario is that we spend time explaining the inheritance risks and need for evaluation of at-risk relatives in the family. Ultimately in many cases there is almost no uptake of these recommendations. We might try various methods, such as providing a letter to the family, giving specific details about local cardiologists, and offering to allow relatives to call us directly, yet the message does not get through to a sizeable proportion of families. This is not just a breakdown in communication but likely also is related to the perceived importance of screening.
