Authors: Theodoropoulou S, Gialouris AG Abstract Brain is an organ with the highest lipid concentration in the body. Cellular membrane lipids can affect both the positioning and the functioning of membrane proteins, thus regulating several cell actions. Changes in the lipid composition of cell membrane can modulate the microenvironment and consequently the function of its proteins, e.g. neurotransmission. Some of the first studies on the subject have shown a negative correlation between serum cholesterol levels and depression, suicidality and behavioral disorders. Several studies -but not all- have found decreased ...

We describe the case of a 3-year-old Indian boy who presented with a 10-day history of pruritic pinpoint papules in multilinear bands on the left trunk. Three months before this presentation, he had similar lesions scattered on his trunk, without any specific distribution, that were consistent with lichen nitidus on histopathologic analysis, and self-resolved within a few days. Past birth, developmental, medical, and family history was unrevealing. The patient ’s family denied recent viral infections, new immunizations, or medication use.

There were 20 flat to slightly raised violaceous 0.5-1 cm in diameter papules on both legs and no lymphadenopathy. Firstly, is alexithymia a continuous and stable trait independent of psychological or somatic symptomology that is developed during childhood? Or is it instead a reactive state induced by trauma and distress at any age, which serves to defend against intense and upsetting emotions? This impacts on treatment options. For example, should we be focussing on early childhood interventions which target the child's emotional environment and parenting to encourage emotional exp...
