Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that: 1) TNF-Tg mice display a restrictive pathology, and 2) in vivo µCT is a valid outcome measure to infer changes in pulmonary mechanical and functional parameters. PMID: 31318607 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Publication date: Available online 19 July 2019Source: Composites Science and TechnologyAuthor(s): Hangil You, Yeonghwan Kim, Gun Jin YunAbstractIn this paper, we propose a series of novel algorithms for microstructure reconstruction based on constituent morphologies. The proposed algorithm can generate statistically equivalent representative volume elements (RVE) from shape repository consisting of the actual particles from micro-computed tomography (CT) images. The reconstruction algorithm is also general in that it can adopt any morphological descriptors. CDFs errors of the morphological descriptors between the targeted...

ConclusionsThe use of diagnostic imaging in SUS-Brazil greatly increased since 2002, but was still much lower than in developed countries, mainly for advanced imaging modalities. Nevertheless, the steep growth in CT use in Brazil raises concerns regarding its potential radiation-related risks, mainly among children.

The clinical utility of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is rapidly advancing. Combining ICB with local cytoreductive therapy, specifically with stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), remains an active area of research. However, no prognostic markers exist to identify patients likely to benefit from combined therapy. The degree of T-cell-mediated immunity is a potential biomarker for predicting response to immunotherapy and prior work demonstrates a potential role for radiomics to identify T-cell infiltration from standard computed tomography (CT) imaging.

A 21-year-old man presented to the hospital after a syncopal episode. The head computed tomography scan demonstrated obstructive hydrocephalus associated with a suprasellar 5.1-cm mass. Owing to the constellation of imaging and clinical manifestations (Cushing's triad), emergent operative decompression was performed, revealing suprasellar germinoma on pathologic examination.

Abstract The vomerovaginal canal (VVC) and palatovaginal canal (PVC) are two canals that open forward to the posterior wall of the pterygopalatine fossa (PPF). Although the anatomy and computed tomography (CT) appearances of the PVC have been well studied, the VVC has been rarely reported, especially in endoscopic examinations. Some studies have even failed to distinguish the PVC from the VVC on CT images. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the anatomy of the VVC on endoscopy and reveal its differences from the PVC, and to analyse the relative positions of the VVC, PVC, and pterygoid canal on CT images. ...

ConclusionThere is an association between the EL ratio and widening of the LIOD. An EL ratio greater than 23% could be used to moderately predict a wide LIOD. A large external bony defect may be associated with lateral displacement of the orbit causing true hypertelorism. Therefore, orbital translocation must be considered in patients with a wide LIOD.

This study used CT scans from 64 Cretan adults (32 male and 32 female) to produce three-dimensional models of each individual's cranium and skin surface. Using the models, the soft tissue depths were measured at 36 craniofacial landmarks; the means and standard deviations were calculated for the general Cretan population, and for male and female Cretans separately. Cretan facial soft tissue depths were then compared to those of French, Slovak, and Korean adults. 16 of the 36 landmarks exhibited sex differences among Cretans, with males having consistently thicker depths than females. The facial soft tissue depths of Cretan...

In conclusion, the data illustrate that in this model, IA TGFβ1 injection results in marked biphasic changes in NfKb-regulated apoptosis, IL1 and IL12 pathways, which were transiently altered after IA HA therapy. The finding that all modulations are essentially restricted to the femoral compartment is consistent with the predominant localization and clearance of injected HA from this site.
