Chikungunya Virus Infection –Associated Psoriatic Arthritis?

Chikungunya, an Aedes mosquito –transmitted alphavirus with 3 main lineages, circulated in Africa and Asia and recently swept through the Americas.1 After an incubation period of 3 to 7 days, chikungunya-infected persons may present with fever, arthralgia, myalgia, headache, and rash; arthralgia may persist for weeks or longer. 1,2 Predictors of persistent symptoms include age more than 40 years, severity at presentation, and musculoskeletal comorbidity.2 Chikungunya has been rarely associated with the onset or flare of psoriasis,3 but not specifically reported with psoriatic arthritis.
