B chromosome first -- mechanisms behind the drive of B chromosomes uncovered

(Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research) B chromosomes are supernumerary chromosomes, which often are preferentially inherited and showcase an increased transmission rate. This transmission advantage is known as 'chromosome drive'. Scientists from the IPK in Gatersleben have now deciphered the mechanisms behind the drive of B chromosomes in Aegilops speltoides.
