Concerning Greater Social Contexts in Bariatric Surgery Availability and Telomere Length Outcomes

To the Editor We read with great interest the Research Letter by Morton et al, which describes the association of surgical loss of weight with lengthening of telomeres in patients who had an adverse cardiometabolic condition prior to surgery. They analyzed telomere length collected from patients with obesity before and after bariatric surgery. The authors recognized “the small study population and a single site intervention” as limitations.
