Abstract Blood-derived progenitors have become the predominant source of hematopoietic stem cells for clinical transplantation. The main advantages compared to the bone marrow are as follows: harvesting blood stem cells is less painful for the donor, utilizes much less resources such as operating theater time and general anesthesia, and, above all, is associated with significantly accelerated reconstitution. The latter has ultimately improved patient safety as a consequence of significantly shortened aplastic phase and hence reduced morbidity and mortality after transplantation. Basic and translational research ef...

Bunt, Sudip Ray, Ali SeyfoddinAbstractA chitosan-pectin (CS-PEC) biopolymeric hydrogel wound dressing was investigated for lidocaine delivery. Here we demonstrate for the first time the feasibility of three-dimensional (3D) printed CS-PEC hydrogel incorporating the local anaesthetic drug lidocaine hydrochloride (LDC) as a potential wound dressing candidate. The hydrogels were prepared by physical crosslinking of CS and PEC polysaccharides. The scaffolds we...

Now that ERAS has opened, I have been researching residency programs and came across the OK State anesthesiology program, a DO program. Their website has a list of requirements for "non-DO applicants" which looks like they require you to have 60 hours of OMM training and a DO letter of recommendation. Are DO programs allowed to have these requirements for MD students? It was my assumption that they wouldn't MD students wouldn't have to jump through these hoops with the new ACGME merger. If... A nurse reported me to my state’s medical board for a youtube video I posted on why physicians can’t be replaced by nurses. The state board said they won’t be doing an investigation because there was no violation. I will admit it was crass with a lot of F-bombs but valid points all around. Thoughts?

You're called by Ortho for a washout of infected knee hardware. They warn you the guy is a little sick. You review the record... 90 yo M with a PMHx of CHF (EF 25%), AFib, and 3rd degree AV block (all presumed due to amyloidosis) and COPD. He was admitted to an OSH a month ago for infected knee hardware and underwent arthroscopy x 3 and grew out pseudomonas. Went to SNF on cefepime, but redeveloped infected knee and got admitted to your hospital. He now has fluid overload with... Weekend Case

We report on the development of a novel murine femur fracture model that is rapid, reproducible and inexpensive.MethodsAs part of a pilot study to investigate the effects of smoking on fracture healing, fifteen 35–43 g twelve-week old female CD-1 mice underwent a novel surgical protocol using direct visualization of femur fracture creation and fixation. Following surgery, mice were sacrificed at 14 days, 28 days and 42 days. After sacrifice, the femora were analyzed using MicroCT and histology to evaluate progression of healing.ResultsOf the 14 mice that survived the surgical procedure (one succumbed to a complicat...

To better understand physiological regulatory factors for the arterial stiffness, we assessed effects of angiotensin II and adrenaline on the CAVI in anesthetized rabbits. A hypertensive dose of angiotensin II (300 ng/kg, i...
