UAB launches opioid overdose program
In an effort to curb an epidemic, the UAB Department of Emergency Medicine is launching a new initiative to help patients with opioid use disorders to get the appropriate therapy and referrals for further assistances.
The program, called the Medication Assisted Treatment Protocol (ED MAT), is funded by a $1.5 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
