FNS: Providing Regulatory Flexibility for Retailers in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) proposes changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), modifying the variety requirements for SNAP authorized retail food stores. The changes would allow retailers more flexibility in what they would need to stock to be a SNAP eligible retailer, including more "shelf-stable food" options, which could help rural locations. It also offers more plant-based protein sources and dairy alternatives for people with different dietary needs and preferences. Comments are due June 4, 2019.
