There is an increasing recognition, in both policy and practice, of the need for better support for informal caregivers of people with dementia.1,2 Understanding the factors that can influence the well-being of caregivers is important for the development of effective support. Caregiving can be both a rewarding and a stressful experience, yet caregiving research has tended to focus on the negative outcomes of caregiving. It is well recognized that caregiving can have a detrimental impact on caregivers ’ health and well-being;3 however, caregivers can also experience positive aspects of providing care, which may have a beneficial influence on their well-being.
