Planning the Pediatric Workforce in Israel
Israel provides a useful model for effective and efficient pediatric workforce planning. Israel is a child-oriented society and 33% of the population are children with the highest fertility rate in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.1 Although infant mortality in Israel is one of the lowest in the world, child poverty level and disparities in healthcare are in the top of OECD nations. Being a child-oriented society, the demand for pediatric services characterized by availability and qualified expertise is very high, including the demand for primary care services to be provided by pediatricians.
