Breast cancer and atrial fibrillation —A malignant combination?
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and breast cancer are common conditions and are reported to complicate each other ’s course. The incidence and prevalence of AF are increasing,1 with a lifetime risk of more than 1 in 3.2 Breast cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm in American women and is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women behind lung cancer.3 In 2018, there will be an estimated 266,120 new cases of breast cancer and 40,920 breast cancer deaths.3
