Small airway dysfunction in elderly patient with asthma: a real life study

Conclusions: In contrast to nonelderly patients, the great majority of elderly has SAD. In elderly patients, SAD is more often associated with CAD and with substantially higher resistance of peripheral airways, suggesting a more severe involvement of the whole bronchial tree. SAD is characterized by longer asthma duration and by lower levels of Type-2 biomarkers in elderly patients.
