Xanthium strumarium L. as a traditional folk medicine can inhibit inflammatory responses through multiple mechanisms. Xanthatin (XT) is a bioactive compound derived from Xanthium strumarium L, and we developed a polymeric micelle (PM) that is dendritic cells (DCs)-specific targeting delivery system loading XT (NGR-XT-PM) ...

Affinity improvement of the fully human anti‑TSLP recombinant antibody. Mol Med Rep. 2020 Feb;21(2):759-767 Authors: Chen Q, Xian D, Xu W, Nian S, Yu H, Wu Y, Yuan Q Abstract Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is a potentially important target for the treatment of asthma and malignancies. However, a fully human antibody reactive with TSLP is currently unavailable for clinical use. In a previous study, a human anti‑TSLP‑single‑chain antibody variable fragment (anti‑TSLP‑scFv) 84 was selected by phage display from a constructed human scFv library. In the present study, a computer simulation ...

In conclusion, although young and non-smoking volunteers considered themselves healthy by questionnaire, 20% showed signs of a heart, liver, or airway disease, and additional 24% were classified as atopics. This suggests that more detailed clinical testing may be necessary to safely exclude those who may adversely react to controlled exposure with sensory irritants. Authors: Yuksekkaya R, Celikyay F, Gul SS, Yuksekkaya M, Kutluturk F, Ozmen C Abstract BACKGROUND: Graves' Disease is an autoimmune disorder characterized by increased levels of thyroid hormones correlated with increased thyroid blood flow. Thyroid scintigraphy is an important and conventional method. However, it has limited accessibility, has ionizing radiation, and is expensive. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the thyroid blood flow in patients with Graves' Disease by color Doppler Ultrasonography and a newly developed software Color Quantification. METHODS: Forty-one consecutive subjects with GD and 41 health...

In this study many children younger than 18 years old with asthma were collected from University hospital outpatient clinics throughout two years period Their MDI inhalation technique was checked and the number of MDI inhalation technique mistakes were detected and corrected at the first visit and every month for two more visits (three visits). Their peak expiratory flow (PEF) and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) as a percentage of the forced vital capacity (FVC) were checked at every visit.Results81 asthmatic subjects (54 female) younger than 18 years old were collected with a mean (SD) age 14.4 (1.8) years old. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that acute MOG-Ab ON shows florid intra-orbital and peri-optic inflammation, likely to involve meninges and nociceptive fibers around the optic nerve. This may explain the frequent and often severe frontal or orbital headache that precedes the visual deficit, sometimes misdiagnosed as migraine.

Otostegia fruticosa is traditionally used to treat tonsillitis, stomach ache, asthma, arthritis, and febrile illness in different parts of Ethiopia and other countries. In this experiment 70% ethanolic crude extract and fractions of the leaf of Otostegia fruticosa (Forssk.) Schweinf. ex Penzig were evaluated for their in-vivo anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities and in-vitro hyaluronidase inhibition properties at different concentrations. Tail immersion, acetic acid induced writhing and carrageenan-induced paw edema model were used to assess the in-vivo analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities, respectively. Swiss ...

We describe an instructive case of a woman with cystic lungs detected during a search for malignancy prompted by a diagnosis of dermatomyositis. Malignancy was indeed uncovered in the form of endometrial carcinoma, the management of which eventually also established the etiology of cystic lung disease. In the discussion we attempt to connect the patient's autoimmune disease, uterine cancer, and lung cysts. The potential interplay among these three components of her presentation makes for intriguing mechanistic speculation. PMID: 31970965 [PubMed - in process]
