This study assessed the efficacy of a pro-thrombotic VTA targeting phosphatidylserine (PS) in a radiation-primed AVM animal model. The model AVM was surgically created in rats by anastomosis of the left external jugular vein to the adjacent common carotid artery. After 6  weeks, the AVM was irradiated (20 Gy) using gamma knife surgery (GKS). In this study, the authors proposed that pretreatment systolic blood pressure is a simple predictor of symptomatic and asymptomatic hemorrhagic infarction (HI) post intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). To validate their finding, they have further compared the pretreatment systolic BP with Glucose Race Age Sex Pressure Stroke Severity (GRASPS) and Totaled Health Risks in Vascular Events (THRIVE) scores and suggested that pretreatment systolic BP is a better predictor of postthrombolysis hemorrhage, and proposed a cut off for 160 mm Hg.

Patients who present emergently with focal neurological deficits concerning for acute ischemic stroke can be extremely challenging to diagnose and treat.
