'Vampire burial' reveals efforts to prevent child's return from grave

(University of Arizona) Archaeologists found the remains of a 10-year-old child with a stone inserted into his or her mouth at a fifth-century Italian cemetery. They think the stone was meant to keep the child from rising from the dead and spreading malaria to the living.
