Oral corticosteroids for asthma exacerbations in preschool-age children: to treat or not to treat and when?

Abrams et  al carefully considered the use of oral corticosteroids for asthma symptoms in toddlers.1 They recommend oral corticosteroids for these young children in the emergency department and hospital. However, they concluded that there is little evidence that administration of an oral corticosteroid is be neficial if administered earlier at home by a parent.
