70.5 Challenges in Inpatient Treatment of the Child and Adolescent Homicide Offender

Participants will be introduced to the complexities of providing care to child and adolescent inpatients who are homicide offenders, including the following: 1) the management of the safety of staff and other patients; 2) the maintenance of the practitioner-patient relationship; 3) the role of the child and adolescent psychiatrist in leading the treatment team to maintain a therapeutic stance; and 4) the navigation of the complex relationship between the treatment program and juvenile court and law enforcement.
