6.1 Brief Psychosocial Intervention for Teens With Major Depression

In the United Kingdom, there is an increasing demand for child and adolescent mental health services. The UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends specialized psychological therapy as first-line treatment for depression; however, this is an expensive and relatively scarce resource. There is an urgent need to increase access to cost-effective psychological treatments. In this presentation, attendees will be able to do the following: 1) learn about the key components of a manualized brief psychosocial intervention (BPI) for adolescents with depressive disorder; 2) be informed about the delivery and effectiveness of BPI within a recent research trial; and 3) understand the evidence for BPI in relation to other specialized forms of psychotherapy and the potential for wider dissemination in services.
