Oct 2, Richard Lester Solomon: Today in the History of Psychology (2nd October 1918)

Richard Lester Solomon was born. A renowned teacher, researcher and academic mentor, Solomon spent over a decade at Harvard before being appointed the first James M. Skinner, University Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1960, where he remained until his retirement in 1984. An influential writer within applied and experimental psychology, Solomon made telling contributions within various fields of inquiry and is best known for his published research work on perception, avoidance learning and motivation. Among his many professional honors, Solomon received the American Psychological Association (APA) Award for Distinguished Scientific Contributions in 1966 and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1968.
