The impact of continuous venovenous haemofiltration on indirect calorimetry

Rationale: Indirect Calorimetry (IC) is the gold standard to calculate Resting Energy Expenditure (REE) and guide individual precision nutritional support. In ICU patients, IC is not always possible as this technique is not validated during renal replacement therapy (RRT) because of pH alteration and CO2 removal. Several efforts have been made to validate IC during different modalities of RRT but not during continuous venovenous haemofiltration (CVVH). The aim of the current study is to compare IC measurements of individual patients during and without CVVH.
