Is there an ebb phase (early hypometabolic period) after multiple trauma?

Rationale: The ebb and flow phases have been described dozens of years ago mainly in surgical patients, showing a hypo-metabolic period followed by an increase in energy metabolism. New intensive care technology and sedation techniques have been challenging these period definitions. The aim of this retrospective study was to find a difference in metabolic rate between the early and the later phase of stress after multiple injury admitted in the ICU.
