Evaluation of vitamin D metabolism in adult patients with vitiligo: A controlled study

Introduction: Vitiligo is a an acquired skin disorder which affects 1 to 2% of worldwide population characterized by achromic macules caused by progressive depigmentation due to loss of functional melanocytes in the epidermis. It is associated with elevated frequency of autoimmune diseases, suggesting an autoimmune etiology for vitiligo. Vitamin D is a lipophilic hormone which deficiency is also associated with autoimmune diseases. Recently, studies have tried to find a relationship between vitiligo and hypovitaminosis D, however this association remains unclear.
