Postoperative alopecia following oral surgery
Postoperative alopecia is an uncommon complication after a variety of surgical procedures performed during general anesthesia.[1-3] In addition, postoperative outcome is aesthetically drastic change.[4,5] It shows as a circumscribed area of hair loss usually in the areas of prominent convexity (vertex and occiput). The etiology was reported that psychological change such as perioperative stressful conditions might be capable of influencing the biological clock within hair cycle.[6,7] In addition, it may be due to pressure induced ischemia secondly to the immobilization of the head position during prolonged surgery with a pathophysiology similar to pressure ulcer.
