Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in HCl Medium by S-benzyl-O,O'-bis(2-naphthyl)dithiophosphate with Ultra-long Lifespan

Publication date: Available online 11 July 2018Source: Results in PhysicsAuthor(s): Chengduan Wang, Chuan Lai, Bin Xie, Xiaogang Guo, Dong Fu, Bin Li, Shasha ZhuAbstractHerein, the target compound of S-benzyl-O,O'-bis(2-naphthyl)dithiophosphate (SBOB) as corrosion inhibitor with ultra-long lifespan was successfully synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy involving FT-IR, 1H, 13C and 31P NMR. Meanwhile, the inhibition performance and mechanism of SBOB for mild steel (MS) in HCl medium were combined to investigate by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and quantum chemical calculation. The potentiodynamic polarization results indicate that SBOB is a mixed-type inhibitor. All experimental results are in good agreement and reveal that the corrosion inhibition increases with the concentration of SBOB. Weight loss results indicate that the inhibition efficiency decreases with HCl concentration and temperature increasing, but the corrosion inhibition performance of SBOB keeps almost unchanged after ultra-long storage time due to the formation of inhibitor film by the physisorption and chemisorption of SBOB on MS surface.

Authors: Jain AK, Thareja S Abstract Nanotechnology has emerged strongly in most of the field of sciences at a tiny scale. At this size, atoms and molecules work differently and present a diversity of amazing and appealing applications. Pharmaceutical nanocarriers comprise nanoparticles, nanospheres, nanocapsules, nanoemulsion, nanoliposomes and nanoniosomes. The major objectives in designing nanocarriers are to manage particle size, surface properties as well as drug release in order to fulfil specific objectives. Hence, characterizations of nanocarriers are very critical to control their desired in vitro and in v...

AbstractObjectiveTo separately investigate the prevalence and risk factors of external root resorption (ERR) in maxillary and mandibular second molars (M2s) adjacent to impacted third molars (M3s).Materials and methodsCBCT scans involving 184 maxillary and 323 mandibular impacted M3s were included. Age, gender, the impaction status of M3, the presence, severity, and location of ERR in M2 were assessed. Risk factors were identified by multivariate logistic regression analyses.ResultsThe prevalence of ERR was 32.6% in maxillary and 52.9% in mandibular M2s (P

In this study, magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles with excellent magnetic behavior were synthesized by co-precipitation method followed by their surface modification to obtain Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2 and polymerization to fabricate D-phenylalanine (D-Phe) imprinted magnetic core-shell polymer (PIMP) and non-imprinted magnetic core-shell polymer (NIMP), respectively. The as-prepared PIMP and NIMP were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). PIMP showed maximum adsorption capacity (3.94...

Authors: Lu X, Forte AJ, Sawh-Martinez R, Wu R, Cabrejo R, Wilson A, Steinbacher DM, Alperovich M, Alonso N, Persing JA Abstract The dysplastic maxilla and retracted zygoma characterize Apert's syndrome. The relationship between the cranial base and facial development is believed to be influential and substantial. The purpose of this study is to explore the temporal relationships of maldevelopment of these structures to identify potential influence patterns. Fifty-four CT scans (unoperated Apert's, n = 18; control, n = 36) were included and divided into three age subgroups (0-6 months, 6 months-2 years, and 2-6 yea...

The need for new antimicrobials is an ever-increasing challenge in clinical environments and in the control of global health. Arylfurans form a set of structures that have been identified in many natural products, e.g. lignans. Lignans are a sub-group of non-flavonoid polyphenols that play an active role in plants' defense against bacteria and fungi i...
