The effect of pain on major cognitive impairment in older adults

Pain is a frequently reported problem by older adults; more than half of community-dwelling older adults and up to 70% of older adults in residential homes, experience pain, and the prevalence of chronic pain increases with advancing age.9,19 In older adults chronic pain interferes with daily activities, and has been associated with risk of developing disability,18 with falls,27,44 functional impairment and poor self-rated health.16,29,37,39,40
